Park Upkeep Increase?
Moorpark’s parks are top-tier, but keeping them that way isn’t cheap. With maintenance costs rising faster than revenue, city officials are exploring ways to cover a growing $1.5 million shortfall.
One option? Raising the current $72.88 annual park maintenance assessment to $112 per household (or even $133 to cover extra amenities). But under Prop. 218, that means property owners would need to approve it. Another route would be a citywide parcel tax, requiring two-thirds voter approval.
The city is hiring a consultant (for up to $70K) to survey property owners and gauge support. If the numbers aren’t there, the idea could be scrapped before it even hits the ballot.
Moorpark has some of the best parks around—but will residents be willing to pay more to keep them that way? Stay tuned as this unfolds!

Raiders Rally Big in 20-11 Win
The Moorpark Raiders started slow but exploded for 11 runs in the 5th inning, turning a 4-0 deficit into a dominant 20-11 victory over LA Harbor. The game, played earlier this week, was supposed to be a two-game series, but the second matchup is TBD while both teams work out a date.
Game highlights? Steve Nelson went 2-for-4 with 4 RBIs, while Nate Kaczynski smashed 2 doubles and drove in 5 runs. On the mound, Paul Millado picked up his first win, tossing 6 solid innings with 5 strikeouts.
The Raiders are scheduled to take on Fullerton this Saturday, Feb. 15, but wet weather could shake things up. Stay tuned for updates!
