Moorpark's Newest 17,000 sqft Addition!

Hey Locals! I hope you all had an incredible Christmas with your families. It was the first week since starting the Moorpark Minute that I skipped two issues in a row. It felt a little weird I cannot lie. Anyways, we’re back and better than ever. Here’s what’s happening:

  • The City approves a new library!

  • Christmas Tree Disposal.

  • The Ultimate New Years Experience

  • MC Women’s Basketball is on a roll!

Thanks for being here, let’s jump in!

Massive New Library is Approved! 📚

Moorpark is getting ready to turn the page on its library story with a $23 million project that’s as inspired as it is ambitious! Breaking ground in February at 83 High Street, the new 17,272-square-foot Moorpark City Library will embrace the city’s rich agricultural heritage with agrarian-style architecture and a whimsical centerpiece—a giant apricot tree sculpture in the children’s area.

This playful design, funded by the city’s $350,000 Art in Public Places allocation, will feature story time seating, tree-themed décor, and even a permanent outdoor sculpture garden. While some councilmembers are pushing for more interactive features (slides, anyone?), city staff aim to keep things inspiring yet practical.

The library’s design will celebrate community input and tie Moorpark’s past to its future—a welcoming space for readers of all ages. Get ready for a library that’s more than just books—it’s a Moorpark masterpiece in the making!

Give Your Tree a Green Goodbye! 🌲

Don’t let your Christmas tree end up on the naughty list this year—recycle it the right way! Here’s the scoop:

Before Recycling:

  • Strip off lights, ornaments, and the stand.

  • Cut the tree into sections no taller than 6 feet.

Curbside Pickup:
Leave your trimmed tree by your bins on your regular pickup day through January 17.

No Curbside? No Problem!
Drop it off for free at collection sites on Marquette Street or Park Crest Lane by January 11.

For more info on tree recycling and disposing of other tricky items, visit moorparkca.gov/dispose. Let’s keep Moorpark merry and green this holiday season! ♻️

MC Women’s Basketball on a roll! 🏀

#5 Marianne Boco

The #4-ranked Women’s Basketball team had a stellar weekend at the Okawa Classic, snagging three impressive wins. The Raiders edged out Long Beach 55-51, triumphed over Skyline College 70-58, and absolutely crushed San Bernardino Valley College 112-41.

With these victories, the Raiders wrap up their non-conference schedule and shift their focus to defending their WSC North crown—with hopes of clinching their 6th straight championship.

Star player Marianne Boco lit up the court, averaging 18 points per game, while Alyssa Saldana added a solid 10.3 points per game. The Raiders are now 12-4 for the season, with their only losses to the top 3 teams in the state.

After a well-earned 10-day break, the team hits the road to face Santa Barbara on January 8th at 5 PM. Mark your calendars—this season is heating up!
