K-12 is upping their game! 🏫

Ventura County’s K-12 test scores are showing the first signs of recovery since the steep drops during the COVID-19 years. According to recently released data , local students slightly improved their pass rates in English Language Arts (ELA) and math from last year’s assessments. This is the first notable bump in ELA scores since statewide testing resumed in 2022, with math scores making incremental progress.

The county’s schools are still trailing state averages, but the gap is shrinking compared to pre-pandemic years. Interestingly, elementary students showed stronger gains in math, while English results didn’t reveal a clear pattern by grade.

City Hall Is on the Move! 🏛️

City Hall is packing up and moving to a new address at 323 Science Drive (industrial offices across the street from the Target shopping center), officially opening on Monday, November 4.

They'll be closed on Friday, November 1, for the big move, but no worries—they’ll still be reachable by phone at (805) 517-6200, and online services will stay live at moorparkca.gov/SHOP.

Until then, City Hall remains open at 799 Moorpark Avenue through October 31.

Field Goal of the Year? 🏈 

The Moorpark College Raiders broke their four-game losing streak with an electrifying overtime win against Bakersfield College, 26-23, thanks to a clutch 39-yard field goal by Tyler Woods. Woods, who stepped in as kicker after a freshman kicker was sidelined, missed a potential game-winner in the fourth but nailed it in OT, bringing the Raiders their first victory over Bakersfield since 2016.

Quarterback Kadyn Parr led the charge, throwing for 234 yards and a touchdown, and running for 122 yards with two TDs. Head Coach Mike Stuart celebrated the win as a full team effort, saying, “It took all three phases coming together.”

Hopefully this is what the boys needed to get the ball rolling for the rest of their season. Keep it up raiders!
