What’s Next for Moorpark’s Chamber of Commerce Building? 🚧

Moorpark Mayor Chris Enegren is asking for community input on the future of the Chamber of Commerce building at 18 High Street (as shown above). During construction of the High Street Depot, a previously undocumented drain pipe servicing the building was damaged, leaving the city with a hefty $162,000 repair bill.

This unexpected cost has sparked a larger discussion: Should the city invest in repairing the pipe and making additional site improvements, or consider repurposing the site altogether? The decision will impact the future of the building and its role in the community.

Some residents suggested adding new parking spaces to accommodate the growing demand High Street has seen in recent years. Others proposed creative ideas like a “mini-park” or even a “cute coffee shop” to enhance the area’s appeal.

The city will address this issue tomorrow, and you can review the staff report here. Mayor Enegren also welcomes your input—share your thoughts on his posts on Facebook or Nextdoor!

THE DASH IS BACK… 🦃

The 21st annual Thousand Oaks Turkey Day Dash is happening once again on November 28, 2024, at California Lutheran University! This 5K road race is a beloved tradition, offering a scenic run (or walk!) for all fitness levels, along with the Zack Zernik Mile Run/Walk, named in honor of a Thousand Oaks native and lifelong Dasher.

Proceeds from the event will benefit three local youth-focused nonprofits: the Southeast Ventura County YMCA, the Kiwanis Club of Thousand Oaks Foundation, and the Ventura County Council of Boy Scouts.

Feeling competitive? Create or join a team to fundraise for these great causes. Track your progress and see if you can claim the title of top supporter!

Whether you're running, walking, or cheering from the sidelines, this event is the perfect way to start your holiday while giving back to the community. Don’t wait—register to secure your t-shirt before they run out:

Thriving at Rajah's Retreat! 🐅

Neil and Karma, the Bengal tigers at Moorpark College Teaching Zoo, are settling beautifully into their new home at Rajah's Retreat. The state-of-the-art habitat, completed a few months ago, offers these big cats plenty of space to roam, swim, and play—all while enjoying prime views of Raider football games from their 8,000-square-foot enclosure.

Zoo staff report that the tigers are more active than ever, with Neil shedding weight and Karma showing off her playful side. Their naturalistic habitat, featuring pools, palm trees, and heated rock shelves, has brought out their energy and curiosity, much to the delight of visitors.

The retreat is part of a larger vision for the Teaching Zoo, with plans for additional animal habitats in the works. For now, Neil and Karma are thriving, making the most of their upgraded space.

Stop by the Teaching Zoo on weekends (11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.) to check in on these tigers and see why their new home is the talk of the town! For more info, visit moorparkcollege.edu
