Quick Fire Update 🔥

The wildfire, coined as the Mountain Fire, ignited Wednesday morning in the Somis area, is still unfortunately alive. As of writing, the fire has:

  • Ravaged over 20,000 acres

  • Damaged more than 130 structures

  • Been lightly contained at 5%

  • Forced evacuations across Ventura County, including areas near Camarillo, Ventura, and Santa Paula.

  • Resulted in 10 non-life-threatening injuries (primarily from smoke inhalation).

Evacuation orders remain in place, and emergency shelters have been set up for residents and animals throughout Ventura County. Schools across Ventura County, including Moorpark, closed in response to poor air quality and ongoing evacuations.

Governor Gavin Newsom declared a state of emergency, which allows for additional state and federal resources. Ventura County officials are closely monitoring the situation, with updated evacuation maps and air quality alerts accessible on county websites. As firefighters work tirelessly to control the blaze, Moorpark residents are urged to stay vigilant and prepared in case of further evacuations.

Stay safe out there Moorpark!
