Simi Valley’s “Poltergeist” house has a new owner—and it’s stirring up more than just nostalgia for the horror classic. Purchased in early October for $1.28 million, the famed movie house on Roxbury Street is rumored to be on track to become a "Poltergeist"-themed short-term rental, sparking unease among neighbors. While some see the potential for spooky fun, residents worry that the conversion will transform their peaceful neighborhood into a constant stream of photo ops and horror fan gatherings, with one longtime neighbor likening it to an “amusement park.”
At a recent city council meeting, concerned residents urged local officials to intervene before things get out of hand. Simi Valley City Manager Samantha Argabrite assured residents that the city is aware of the situation and will review existing codes for short-term rentals, potentially adding new regulations. With a council report due in November, all eyes are on city leaders to see if this famous haunted home will become the ultimate horror getaway—or just a ghost of an idea.

Local Artist Reps Moorpark! 🎨
Moorpark’s own Bianca Levan is bringing a slice of home to the Bay Area art scene with “Connecting Cuts,” her first curated exhibit at Olive Hyde Gallery in Fremont. Opening November 7 and running through December 14, the exhibit showcases Levan’s intricate papercut works that capture the serene beauty of Moorpark’s rolling hills, misty mornings, and expansive fields—all carved with nothing more than a scalpel and black paper.
Each piece is a journey, taking Levan around 40 hours to complete as she carefully slices out the shapes and shadows of her memories. Born to Vietnamese parents in Moorpark, Levan feels her work explores themes of loss and longing, with roots connecting her art back to her hometown’s landscapes. Curator Leah Andrews describes Levan as “knowledgeable and ambitious, shaping the exhibit beyond expectations.”
Levan’s work is featured alongside international papercutting styles like Chinese jianzhi and German Scherenschnitte, highlighting the art form’s global influence. A blend of culture, nature, and nostalgia, “Connecting Cuts” invites viewers to see the beauty of home in a whole new light.
