Madera Fire Contained! ️‍🔥

On Wednesday morning, a brush fire broke out near the Simi Valley Landfill, sending smoke drifting toward Highway 118 and briefly closing some westbound lanes. Dubbed the Madera Fire, the blaze ignited just after 10:25 a.m. near the landfill and recycling facility on Madera Road.

Fire crews arrived swiftly, spotting smoke visible from the highway as winds pushed it westward. Thanks to their quick action, the fire’s forward progress was stopped by 11 a.m., and it was mapped at approximately 7.4 acres later in the day.

Despite the disruption, no structures were damaged, and traffic soon resumed. Major shoutout to our Ventura County Fire Department for their efficient response! If nothing else, let this serve as a reminder to stay vigilant during fire season—even in December.

Malibu Fire Update… 🔥

While on the topic of fires, I’m sure many of you have heard about the Franklin Fire in Malibu. Although the effects of this fire don’t directly impact Moorpark, I felt it was important to provide an update and share some background on the current situation.

Crews are gaining ground on the Franklin Fire in Malibu, now 30% contained as of Thursday evening, a significant jump from 7% containment the day prior. While the fire has scorched over 4,000 acres since it began late Monday, calmer weather, higher humidity, and even some light rain have helped firefighters slow its spread.

Evacuations continue to impact around 20,000 residents, with over 6,300 forced from their homes. Pacific Coast Highway remains closed, and schools in the area will stay shuttered through Friday. Malibu’s City Hall and public facilities are also closed, with all events and programs suspended.

Despite the challenges of steep, hard-to-reach terrain, nearly 2,000 personnel are working tirelessly to protect the community. Nine structures have been destroyed and six damaged, but no injuries or fatalities have been reported. Officials urge residents to stay informed and vigilant as containment efforts accelerate.

Stay safe, Malibu!

Musketeers Look to Bounce Back 🏀

The Moorpark Musketeers hit a bump in the road Wednesday night, falling to a dominant Westlake squad, 81-52. While the game didn’t go Moorpark’s way, it’s worth noting that the Musketeers have had a solid season so far, holding a respectable 5-3 record.

With another game just around the corner, Moorpark will look to regroup and refocus as they face Heritage Christian today at 6:30 PM. Heritage Christian has been consistent offensively, scoring at least 55 points in every game this season, but the Musketeers are no strangers to stepping up when the pressure is on.

This season is far from over, and the Musketeers are ready to show their resilience. Let’s rally behind them as they look to make a strong comeback! Go Musketeers!
